The HAK Mattersburg school has received an award for its cross subject practice company project, Schaumtraum, ORF reported. It was one of 15 winning class projects selected across Austria.

The MEGA Education Foundation, an Austrian private foundation that supports educational initiatives with funding, expertise and networks, awarded each winning project 1,000 euros for the first time this year. A total of 120 projects were submitted in the areas of equal opportunities and economic education.

HAK Mattersburg established Schaumtraum as part of its economic education programme. The project is designed to show how individual tasks can develop into reliable teamwork and how projects spanning several subjects can strengthen students’ understanding of economics.

MEGA Secretary General Lisa Maria Sommer Fein said projects of this kind demonstrate that education is particularly effective when it takes different starting conditions into account and gives all children fair opportunities to develop.
