Vienna gynaecologist found guilty in three disciplinary cases

ORF Vienna and the weekly magazine profil report that a Vienna gynaecologist was found guilty in three disciplinary proceedings by the Austrian Medical Chamber between late 2024 and mid-2025. The disciplinary council found that he had treated patients in an abusive, disrespectful and unprofessional manner.

In one case, a patient who asked about her diagnosis was reportedly told, “Google it, you have a phone.” When she continued asking questions, the doctor allegedly told her, “Right, out with you, disappear,” and expelled her from his practice.

The council also found that as many as 100 patients a day were being treated, leaving only a few minutes for each consultation. The doctor was found guilty of breaching his duty to provide conscientious medical treatment and advice, damaging the reputation of the medical profession, and violating confidentiality and documentation requirements.

According to ORF Vienna and profil, the doctor showed no remorse during the proceedings. He denied the women’s accounts and attempted to discredit them, describing them as “immature”, “emotionally overwhelmed” and “psychologically conspicuous”. The disciplinary council rejected his claims and said his statements demonstrated a contemptuous attitude towards women.

The doctor was ordered to pay a total fine of 12,000 euros and 4,200 euros in procedural costs.

Dispute over health insurance contract

Despite the findings, parts of the Austrian Medical Chamber apparently continue to support the doctor. The Austrian Health Insurance Fund wants to terminate his health insurance contract, and proceedings have been under way for months before a regional arbitration commission.

A decision was expected by the end of June but has reportedly been delayed by a deadlock. The insurance side supports termination, while the Medical Chamber opposes it. A judge must now decide. The Vienna Medical Chamber declined to comment on the ongoing proceedings, saying that its members of the regional arbitration commission were not bound by instructions.

In response to questions from ORF Vienna and profil, the gynaecologist again rejected the allegations. He said that, because reviews and proceedings were ongoing, he could not comment publicly on individual procedural steps or legal details.

The Vienna public prosecutor’s office is also investigating the doctor on suspicion of fraud. At the same time, the MA40 department responsible for social and health law is conducting proceedings on a temporary professional ban. The presumption of innocence applies.
