FPÖ selects Michael Raml to lead Linz election campaign

The FPÖ in Linz has unanimously selected Michael Raml as its lead candidate for the 2027 municipal council and mayoral elections, ORF reported. Raml said he would run with a “plan for Linz” and seek to “put the city back in order”.

Raml described the election as a decision about the direction of the city and highlighted transport, security, migration and integration as key issues. He said he would further develop his existing plan with experts.

Transport and security top voters’ concerns

According to a poll commissioned by the FPÖ, the party and the SPÖ are currently level in Linz. The survey was conducted by pollster Peter Hajek between June 3 and 25, 2026, and questioned 806 eligible voters in telephone and online interviews.

Among the issues cited as the city’s most important political tasks, transport and road infrastructure ranked first at 29 percent. Security and crime followed at 25 percent, while migration, asylum and integration were named by 24 percent.

In the 2024 mayoral election, Raml clearly lost the runoff against SPÖ candidate Dietmar Prammer. Raml received 22.9 percent of the vote, compared with 77.1 percent for Prammer.
