Police arrest Vienna man suspected of online shopping fraud

Police in Vienna have arrested a 21 year old man suspected of using stolen personal data to order goods from online shops, ORF reported. The case began with a complaint filed by a woman from Salzburg.

The 43 year old told police in January that an unknown person had ordered several items online using her name and address. Investigators found that multiple orders had been placed through hacked accounts and sent to collection points in Vienna.

Police identified the suspect as a Vienna resident and narrowed the alleged offences to December 2025 and January 2026. During that period, orders were allegedly placed on a commercial basis using data belonging to several people from across Austria. Police said the resulting damage amounted to a mid four figure sum.

A search was carried out at the suspects presumed home address in Vienna, involving Salzburg police officers and WEGA special forces. The man was arrested at a different address in Vienna. He denies the allegations and will be reported to prosecutors.
