Andritz expands Linz production for gas-fired turbogenerators

Andritz has opened a new production hall in Linz as it expands manufacturing of gas-fired turbogenerators, ORF reported. The globally active group supplies power plants and is investing a high double-digit million-euro amount in its Linz facility.

The turbogenerators, which can produce more than 300 megawatts of electricity, are assembled in Linz. They can quickly compensate for fluctuations in the power grid, making them an important component in expanding renewable energy generation.

Demand for the generators has risen significantly in recent years. Jürgen Holzer, head of Andritz’s turbogenerator division, said they were particularly important in the United States, where power grids were less stable. They could help provide decentralised energy and stabilise the grid, he said.

The generators, which can weigh up to 300 tonnes, will mainly be transported from Linz by water. Holzer said the location was important because the products could be shipped directly along the Danube. Such heavy generators could only be transported by ship to the sea, he said.

Andritz also plans to increase technical staff at the facility. The number of employees is expected to rise from 70 to more than 130 by 2028.
