Firefighters rescue injured teenager from abandoned Bavarian clinic

Firefighters rescued an injured teenager from the overgrown grounds of a former clinic in Bischofswiesen, Bavaria, on Wednesday evening, ORF reported.

Police said four teenagers entered the property of the former Stanggaß clinic at about 8 p.m. One of them twisted his leg on a dilapidated outdoor staircase and suffered a knee injury that left him unable to continue.

Because the accident happened in an exposed location that was difficult to reach, emergency medical services called in the Bischofswiesen volunteer fire brigade to help with the rescue. Thirty firefighters using four vehicles eventually brought the teenager out and took him to hospital for further treatment.

The former clinic, which dates from the 1940s, has been vacant for about 30 years and is increasingly deteriorating. The grounds are popular with photographers who specialise in abandoned places and with teenagers seeking adventure. Police in Berchtesgaden are investigating the exact circumstances of the accident and why the group entered the property without permission.
