SCR Altach is giving Yann Massombo a second chance and allowing the attacking player to rejoin the Austrian Bundesliga club’s team training, ORF reported on Wednesday.

The decision followed several intensive talks between the club and Massombo, who recently refused to travel for the away match at Sturm Graz because he wanted a transfer.

Massombo apologised for what he called his “very selfish behaviour”. “In hindsight, I made a mistake and would do many things differently today,” the 26 year old said.

He said an offer from a league rival had occupied his thoughts and that he had found himself in an exceptional situation. Massombo apologised to his teammates, the staff, the fans and the club.

A move to Sturm Graz, or any other transfer during the summer window, is no longer under consideration. “From now on, I am focusing fully on SCR Altach and want to help the team and the club achieve our goals again,” Massombo said.

Altach said the matter was not yet definitively closed. “Valid employment contracts are an important and valuable principle for us as a club, which everyone involved must accept and comply with,” it said. The club is examining the case because there are indications of a possible rule violation and expressly reserves the right to take legal action.

Altach also presented 25 year old attacking player Rodney Elongo Yombo as a new signing. The German and Congolese dual national has signed a two year contract after playing for German third division club 1. FC Saarbrücken last season.

“He brings an eye for goal, the ability to use both feet and the necessary experience to further strengthen our attack,” Altach sporting director Philipp Netzer said.
