Police in Liezen have reported a 20-year-old driver after finding several technical defects and suspected modifications on his car, ORF reported. The vehicle was removed from the road, and its licence plates and registration certificate were seized.
Police began investigating after reports of a meeting of the so-called Roadrunner scene at a supermarket car park on Richard-Steinhuber-Straße in Liezen on Saturday, August 22. Videos on social media showed a black car performing “burnouts” and other driving manoeuvres.
Officers stopped the vehicle during targeted traffic checks in Liezen on Wednesday and sent it for a technical inspection with the driver. Experts found several defects and modifications.
The most serious involved the exhaust system. The catalytic converter had been removed and replaced with a pipe, causing backfires and considerable noise.
The driver faces several reports under Austria’s Motor Vehicles Act. Investigations are also examining an apparently manipulated Section 57a inspection report, known as a “Pickerl”, and suspected property damage.
