Steiermark company delivers aircraft recovery vehicle to Munich airport

A specially developed aircraft recovery vehicle made in St. Nikolai ob Draßling in Styria has been handed over to Munich Airport, ORF reported. It is designed to quickly remove disabled aircraft from runways and help prevent further damage and lengthy disruptions to flight operations.

The vehicle was developed by Andreas Mühlfellner. It is driven to the damaged landing gear, lowered fully to the ground and used to secure and lift the aircraft. Its rollers reduce the load on the ground, allowing it to replace damaged main or nose landing gear.

The Lannach-based company CON-ACT has the recovery vehicle manufactured by Metallbau Ferk in St. Nikolai ob Draßling, in the Leibnitz district.

The delivery follows an incident at Munich Airport in mid-August involving a Vietnam Airlines Boeing 787 Dreamliner. The aircraft reportedly ran beyond the runway during take-off and lifted off from the grass. For safety reasons, it did not continue to Vietnam and landed back in Munich, where it was towed away after suffering tyre damage.
