ÖBB to invest 144.4 million euros in Puchberger Bahn upgrade

ÖBB will invest 144.4 million euros in a comprehensive upgrade of the Puchberger Bahn railway line, ORF reported. Work at seven stations will begin and is scheduled to be completed by September 2027.
The project will focus on renewing platforms and making them accessible to passengers with disabilities. It will also include new tracks and points, track foundations, drainage systems, railway bridges, cables, signals and light signal and barrier systems at several level crossings.
Planned work at the stations
At Bad Fischau-Brunn, workers will install an electronic interlocking system for remote control of train operations and build a new island platform with step-free access and a shelter. Full barrier systems will be installed at the level crossings on Ungarfeldgasse and Wiener Neustädter Straße.
At Winzendorf, a new island platform with step-free access and a shelter will be built. The station building will be replaced with rooms for technical equipment and retail or commercial space. New regional bus platforms and full barrier systems at the level crossings on Hauptstraße and Wiener Neustädter Straße are also planned.
At Urschendorf, the existing stop will be removed and replaced with a new accessible side platform with access from the town side and a shelter. A Park and Ride and Bike and Ride facility will be built, along with a full barrier system at the Nettinger Straße level crossing.
At Willendorf, a new island platform will be built. The station forecourt will be redesigned with a bus turning loop, Park and Ride and Bike and Ride facilities, and new regional bus platforms. A full barrier system will be installed at the Puchberger Straße level crossing, while a level crossing on a service road near the station will be closed.
At Grünbach am Schneeberg, the project includes a new side platform and shelter, the removal of the station building and the redesign of the Park and Ride facility and station forecourt.
At Grünbach am Schneeberg Kohlenwerk, a new station with an island platform and pedestrian underpass will be built, together with Park and Ride and Bike and Ride facilities. The level crossing at Am Neuschacht will be closed and replaced by an underpass. New roads and access paths will also be constructed.
At Puchberg am Schneeberg, the railway will receive a new island platform and a new bridge over the Schoberbach. A full barrier system will be installed at the Wiener Neustädter Straße level crossing.
Bad Fischau-Brunn and Winzendorf are in Wiener Neustadt district. The other stations are in Neunkirchen district.
