Metal parts extend ÖBB restrictions through Thursday

Rail restrictions after a Railjet incident near Hetzendorf will last longer than initially planned, ORF reported. Local services between Meidling and Liesing will remain limited until Thursday afternoon, while long-distance trains will be diverted.

According to an ÖBB disruption notice, the restrictions are expected to remain in place until 4 p.m. on Thursday. Some trains may be cancelled, and delays of up to 20 minutes are possible.

Trains on the CJX9 line may operate only between Wiener Neustadt Hauptbahnhof and Payerbach-Reichenau. Passengers have been asked to follow announcements over the station loudspeakers and information shown on platform monitors.

The restrictions were caused by track damage involving metal parts. On Monday, a Railjet near Hetzendorf station ran over a metal object and had to stop.

The source of the metal parts remains unclear. A recycling facility near the railway line is one possible source, but investigations are continuing. ÖBB said there was no indication that the parts had been placed there deliberately.
