Raiffeisen to rebuild Grödig branch for €7 million

Raiffeisen Lagerhaus Salzburg GmbH will invest €7 million in rebuilding and modernising its branch in Grödig, the Flachgau region, ORF reported. From March 2027, the branch is expected to have twice as many parking spaces as it does now, as well as two electric vehicle charging points.
The Grödig branch will not have a conventional fuel station, unlike some other locations, managing director Martin Schiller said. The company plans to close smaller fuel stations over the long term because of stricter safety requirements and further reduce its network. Affordable fuel for agricultural vehicles will then be available only at selected locations, such as Bruck an der Glocknerstraße in the Pinzgau region.
The new building will focus on sustainability and efficient use of resources. It is intended to meet the Gold criteria of the Austrian Society for Sustainable Real Estate Management, a non-governmental organisation that promotes sustainability in the construction and property sectors. The building will also have a photovoltaic system.
The new market building, materials warehouse, green roof areas and expanded infrastructure are intended to make the Grödig branch the most modern Lagerhaus in Salzburg, the company said.
Strategy aims to improve profitability
The Grödig project is part of a new strategy to make Salzburg’s Lagerhaus business more profitable. The Raiffeisen Association plans to retain its current branch network in the medium term, Schiller said. Last year, the closures of branches in Niedernsill and Taxenbach in the Pinzgau region and Abersee in the Flachgau region drew strong criticism.
The company is also investing in existing locations in Flachau in the Pongau region and Bruck in the Pinzgau region. Branches in Hallein, Eugendorf and St. Johann are scheduled for renovations, Schiller said.
No further branch closures are currently planned. The company must position itself for the future and invest where demand is strongest, the managing director said.
A buyer has been found for the closed Niedernsill branch. A neighbouring timber company will use the former sales areas as a showroom and offices. The new owner plans to reopen the fuel station by the end of the year as a service for nearby businesses and farmers, despite expecting losses.
