Man arrested after threatening to shoot police in Vienna

A 42-year-old man was arrested in Vienna’s Donaustadt district after allegedly threatening to shoot police officers during a dispute with his former partner, ORF reported. Police launched a large-scale operation because it was initially unclear whether he was armed.

The dispute over the end of the relationship took place at a detached house on Wagramer Straße during the night from Saturday to Sunday. The man allegedly made several threats against his former partner before saying he wanted to shoot police officers. He then left the house.

Police located him behind the house using a drone equipped with a thermal imaging camera. Officers provisionally arrested him at about 3.50 a.m.; he was unarmed but allegedly had drugs with him.

Inside the house, officers also seized a long gun that had not been properly stored and ammunition. The man was issued a ban on entering and approaching the property, along with a provisional weapons ban.
