Schönbrunner Bad to remain closed throughout 2027

Vienna’s Schönbrunner Bad swimming pool will remain closed throughout 2027 for urgent renovation and refurbishment work, ORF reported. The privately operated pool, located in Schönbrunn Palace Park and known for its 50-metre sports pool, is scheduled to reopen in spring 2028.
Selected parts of the facility will also be modernised, while sections of the guest areas will be redesigned, according to the pool’s website.
Last major refurbishment in 2000 and 2001
The Schönbrunner Bad was last comprehensively upgraded in 2000 and 2001, when it was also fitted with a modern water treatment system.
The pool was first mentioned in a letter by Archduke Franz Joseph in 1838. During the First Republic, it served as a military swimming school. After the Second World War, the British Army used it until 1955. It was then opened to Vienna’s residents.
