B1 repairs in Gunskirchen divert traffic through residential area

Extensive repairs on the B1 road in Gunskirchen, in the Wels-Land district, began Monday and will last two weeks, ORF reported. Traffic will be diverted in parts, with the municipality warning that up to 9,000 vehicles a day could pass through a residential area.

The entire road surface will be replaced. Traffic heading towards Wels will be guided through the construction site in a single lane, except on September 4 and 7, when the road will be completely closed.

Traffic heading towards Lambach will be diverted through a residential area in Gunskirchen, creating an additional burden for local residents.

Mayor Christian Schöffmann said the municipality had been informed by the state of Upper Austria in early July that repairs were planned on the section between Wirt am Berg and the junction near Autohaus Schönegger. He said the works had been announced somewhat unexpectedly.

Schöffmann said carrying out the work during the school holidays could help reduce traffic volumes. Residents have been informed by leaflet, and the municipality has appealed to drivers to show discipline and consideration.
