Police seize car after 17-year-old clocked at 150 km/h

Police seized a car in Steyr after a 17-year-old with a provisional driving licence was clocked at 150 km/h in a 60 km/h zone, ORF reported.

The teenager from the Steyr-Land district was driving along Ennser Straße, the B 115 road, at about 1 a.m. on Sunday when officers carried out laser speed checks.

His provisional licence was taken away at the scene. Because he was driving 90 km/h over the limit, police also provisionally seized the vehicle.

According to Austria’s Interior Ministry, accidents involving young drivers have fallen by about one-third since the introduction of provisional driving licences. However, traffic statistics still identify young drivers as one of the country’s main accident-risk groups.
