Fishermen are using drones to remove dead fish from the Nussensee lake in the Salzkammergut, where access remains prohibited because weapons and explosives have repeatedly been found, ORF reported.
The lake has been almost completely drained for weeks. Fishermen can search for carcasses only with telescopes and from a safe distance because they are not allowed to enter the shoreline. The dead fish must be removed because they could potentially pose a risk to drinking water.
The drained lake has also revealed other finds, including a bottle message dated 1959. The bottle, which ORF said had been submerged for more than 80 years, was handed over to the authorities and is now being examined by an expert.
People in Bad Ischl are waiting to learn what message the bottle’s original senders wanted to leave for future generations.
