Firefighters rescued a 90-year-old woman from an apartment fire in Kufstein on Friday evening, ORF reported. She and her 90-year-old husband were taken to Kufstein District Hospital with suspected smoke inhalation.

The fire broke out at about 10.30 p.m. in an apartment building. The woman’s husband, who owned the apartment, was already outside when firefighters arrived and told them she was still inside.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the building and quickly rescued the woman. The other residents were evacuated because of the smoke.

The couple had no visible injuries. Fire crews extinguished the fire by 11.10 p.m., after which the building was reopened to the remaining residents.

The cause of the fire remains unclear. A technical fault in the electric cooker or oven is suspected. The operation involved an ambulance, a Red Cross command vehicle and four vehicles from the Kufstein volunteer fire brigade, with 25 firefighters.
