Dornbirn extends weapons ban after 37 knives seized

Dornbirn has extended its weapons ban at the city’s railway station after police seized 37 knives over the past 18 months, ORF reports. Several weapons were also confiscated during the past three months.

The seized knives included pocket knives, fish knives and Leatherman knives. Police also found 10 other dangerous items, including syringes, pepper spray and an arrow about one metre long with a metal tip.

The weapons ban has been in force since February 2025 and was recently extended for the sixth time. The district authority said the restricted zone was still necessary because weapons continued to be found. Police seized about six knives between May 1 and July 31.

Since the end of May, police have recorded 14 cases of aggressive behaviour in the weapons-free zone. These included six reports of bodily harm, three of dangerous threats and 10 under the Narcotic Substances Act. Several administrative offences were also recorded.
