Police evade drunk driver by swerving into driveway

A 67-year-old driver was arrested after allegedly driving at excessive speed while heavily intoxicated in Feistritz, in the Spittal an der Drau district, ORF Kärnten reported.

The man was travelling on the Sachsenburger Straße road from Obergottesfeld towards Sachsenburg at about 5 p.m. on Friday when his car crossed into the opposite lane because of his unsafe driving.

A police officer travelling in the opposite direction had to swerve into a house driveway to avoid a collision. The driver continued towards Sachsenburg at excessive speed and was later found at his home.

A breathalyser test showed severe intoxication. Police confiscated his driving licence and will report him to the public prosecutor’s office on suspicion of endangering physical safety.
