Man arrested after allegedly attacking girlfriend with glass bottle

A 23-year-old man was arrested in Vienna’s Favoriten district on Thursday morning after allegedly assaulting his 19-year-old girlfriend, ORF reported. He is accused of hitting and choking her, threatening to kill her and injuring her head with a glass bottle.

Police forced open the apartment after the woman’s mother called out of concern. Officers from the WEGA tactical unit said the man attacked one of them with a punch. The woman had injuries to her face, according to the Vienna State Police Directorate.

The man allegedly prevented her from leaving the apartment. Emergency services treated her before she was released into home care. Police provisionally arrested the suspect at about 9.45am.

Authorities issued a ban on entering and approaching the woman, as well as a provisional weapons ban. On instructions from the Vienna Public Prosecutor’s Office, the man was reported while remaining at liberty.
