Police seize four weapons after Tyrolean man threatens wife

Police seized four weapons from a 36-year-old man in Völs, Tyrol, after he allegedly threatened his wife and drove away with their seven-year-old son, ORF reported.

The incident began with an argument between the man and his 34-year-old wife at their apartment at about 4.30pm on Tuesday. After the threat, the woman left with the couple’s three children.

The man followed them and encountered the family near the railway station. He then took his seven-year-old son and drove away in his car. The woman reported the incident to police.

A police negotiation team contacted the man by telephone. He was subsequently arrested without resistance at his home.

A search of the apartment found two blank-firing pistols and two firearms. Police said the man legally owned the weapons.

The weapons were confiscated, and authorities imposed a ban on entering the home and a weapons ban. Following consultation with the Innsbruck public prosecutor’s office, the man will face charges without being held in custody. The couple are Austrian citizens.
