Tyrol police deploys 400,000 euros in new radar technology

Tyrol’s police force has replaced all of its mobile radar devices with new high-frequency systems costing around 400,000 euros, ORF reported. The state police directorate said Tyrol is the first Austrian federal state to be fully equipped with the latest-generation technology.

The new systems offer improved performance, greater measurement precision and very low measurement tolerance. Police said they will enable more effective monitoring of road traffic across Tyrol.

The radar devices can be used in specially equipped vehicles, mounted on tripods or installed in flexible radar boxes known as “Multaboxen”. The police said this allows them to be deployed flexibly and efficiently throughout the federal state.

The state police directorate described the equipment as Austria’s most modern radar measurement technology. It said the investment was intended to improve road safety by consistently penalising speeding, preventing traffic accidents and protecting road users.
