Vienna raises water, sewer and waste fees by up to 4.6%

Vienna will raise charges for water, sewer services and waste collection by up to 4.6 percent from January 2027, ORF reported. The increases are based on the city’s indexation law.

Under the law, the consumer price index is reviewed in the middle of each year. Fees are adjusted if the index has risen by at least 3 percent since the previous increase.

The last index-linked adjustment in these areas took place in early 2025. Since then, the index has risen by 4.6 percent for water and wastewater and by 4.5 percent for waste collection.

The price of water will rise by 10 cents per cubic metre, from 2.27 euros to 2.37 euros. The sewer charge will increase by 11 cents, from 2.49 euros to 2.60 euros.

Parking charges will not increase in 2027. The city said the relevant threshold was not exceeded after parking became more expensive in 2026.

Vienna City Hall said the revenue would go directly towards municipal infrastructure. It said 130 million euros was invested in water supply each year, while the public sewer network would be renovated or expanded with a total of 380 million euros by 2031.
