Two workers injured in separate Styria workplace accidents

A 35-year-old man suffered an electric shock while helping to erect an event tent in Deutschlandsberg on Wednesday, ORF reported. He collapsed and was taken to Deutschlandsberg Hospital.

The man was setting up a large tent for a running event at an industrial and commercial park at about 10.30am when an earth anchor damaged an electricity cable hidden underground. During subsequent work, he came into contact with the live circuit.

The Red Cross provided emergency medical treatment after he suffered circulatory collapse. Employees of Energie Steiermark located and secured the damaged cable. Police are investigating the circumstances of the accident.

Farmer seriously injured by circular saw

A separate workplace accident occurred on Wednesday afternoon in Dechantskirchen, in the Hartberg-Fürstenfeld district. A 53-year-old farmer was working alone with a hand-held circular saw when his left hand became caught in the running machine.

He suffered serious injuries. His family alerted the emergency services, and he was flown by the Christophorus 16 rescue helicopter to a hospital in Graz.
