flooding, Rietz, water pipe burst

A water pipe burst flooded the ground floor of a detached house in Rietz overnight into Wednesday, ORF reported. By about 2 a.m., the floor was covered by 15 centimetres of water.

The residents shut off the main water line inside the house, but the water level did not fall. The Silz fire brigade then shut off the main line on the affected municipal road, allowing pumping and clean-up work to begin. The work continued until about 4 a.m.

The municipality of Rietz said the burst pipe had since been located and repaired. Excavation work was then carried out on behalf of the municipality to investigate the cause of the leak.

The extent of the damage to the house is not yet known.
