The right-wing student group Aktion 451 plans to hold a meeting in Klagenfurt on Thursday, ORF reported. According to a domestic intelligence report, the group is a front organisation for the far-right Identitarian Movement.
Aktion 451 is promoting the evening meeting with a large-scale leaflet campaign in a Klagenfurt residential complex. The group has direct contacts with the Identitarian Movement, according to the report.
The group operates underground and is active mainly at universities in Germany, and in Austria particularly in Vienna. It has also appeared several times in Carinthia, the State Police Directorate told ORF.
One action took place at the University of Klagenfurt in May, when members of Aktion 451 climbed onto the university roof and placed the group’s lettering there. The university then called the police.
The university administration responded to the planned meeting in a written statement on Tuesday, saying it “strongly condemns every form of extremism”. It said similar leaflet campaigns had taken place several times, including on campus. The leaflets were removed and reported to the authorities.
The State Police Directorate said the group had not so far committed any offences in Carinthia. The university, domestic intelligence services and police nevertheless remain in regular contact, according to the parties involved.
