Police arrest suspected serial burglar after 13 break-ins
Police in Frankenburg am Hausruck, a town in the Vöcklabruck district, arrested a 49-year-old man after allegedly catching him attempting to steal from a company property. ORF reported that the man is suspected of carrying out 13 burglaries. He was taken to Wels prison.
Officers spotted the man at about 2.40am on the night before Saturday at the company premises. When they tried to stop him, he fled on foot. One officer caught up with him and brought him to the ground, suffering minor injuries in the process.
Identity confirmed by fingerprints
The man initially had no identification documents and refused to give his name. Police confirmed his identity by comparing his fingerprints, finding that he was the person already suspected of several burglaries in the Vöcklabruck district.
The burglaries are believed to have taken place in two industrial areas in the district. During a voluntary search, officers also found and secured various items suspected to be stolen goods. Investigators are examining whether the items came from the reported burglaries.
