Twint to launch direct debit payments in 2027

Swiss payment app Twint will introduce a direct debit service in 2027, SRF reports. Users will be able to pay recurring bills such as electricity, health insurance and subscriptions directly through the app.

The service will allow users to authorise, manage and view recurring payments in Twint. The company said it aims to eliminate paper forms and cumbersome processes. The service is supported by Switzerland’s largest banks and is intended as an alternative to the traditional direct debit system, which will be discontinued at the end of September 2028.

Twint said the new system would also reduce administrative work for merchants and bill issuers and help prevent bills from being forgotten. The app has more than six million active users, according to the company.

Twint is owned by BCV, PostFinance, Raiffeisen, UBS, ZKB, SIX and Worldline.
