FC Südburgenland/Hartberg rescued a point against SK Rapid Wien in their first home match of the season, with captain Vanessa Beiglböck heading in an equaliser in the 97th minute, ORF reported.
The match began with a setback for the Burgenland team when new signing Sophie Grafl appeared to suffer a torn cruciate ligament within seconds. Coach Michael Thek said the injury had disrupted the team’s entire game plan.
Despite struggling in the heat, Südburgenland/Hartberg took the lead after more than half an hour through Emilia Csejtei. Rapid then turned the match around shortly before and after half-time.
“It was a very physical game and not easy because of the heat,” Beiglböck said. She added that the team had expected more despite securing a late draw.
“We are still missing the finishing touches in attack. Then I think we will be very well placed for this season,” Beiglböck said.
Südburgenland/Hartberg will play another home match next Sunday against FC Blau-Weiß Linz/Kleinmünchen.
