Zirl lifts boil-water order after tests confirm safety

The municipality of Zirl in the Innsbruck-Land district has lifted its boil-water order after tests confirmed that the public water supply is safe again, ORF reported.

The water can once again be used without boiling for drinking and preparing food and beverages, the municipality said. The order, issued on August 7, was lifted with immediate effect.

It was the second time this year that residents in Zirl had been required to boil their drinking water.

The municipality has ordered a UV disinfection system, which is expected to be installed within the next eight weeks. The system will use ultraviolet light to inactivate microorganisms such as bacteria, viruses and other germs.

A continuous turbidity monitoring system using turbidity probes has also been commissioned. The water is currently being chlorinated for disinfection and to provide additional protection for the supply.
