Four men flee after attempted Innsbruck break-in

Four men fled after allegedly trying to break into an apartment in Innsbruck using a blank-firing gun, ORF reported. A search involving police special forces found no suspects, and the investigation is continuing.

Police were called to Kirschentalgasse shortly after 4.40am on Friday. The men initially tried to smash an apartment window to get inside. When that apparently failed, one of them allegedly fired a shot at the window with a blank-firing gun.

After the window broke, witnesses reported a scuffle. The four suspects then fled. The apartment’s resident was not at home at the time and arrived later, police said.

Officers from the EKO Cobra special forces searched the apartment but found no suspicious people. Several police patrols, the Rapid Intervention Group and the police dog unit also took part in the operation and subsequent search.

The motive and the identities of the four men remain unknown, according to police.
