French tourist robbed after photo trick in Salzburg

A 68-year-old French tourist was robbed in Salzburg on Wednesday afternoon after two men distracted him by asking for a photograph, ORF reported.

The tourist was walking near the Mirabell Gardens when the two strangers asked him to take a picture of them. One of the men then suddenly pushed him and stole his wristwatch. He was not injured.

Police told the Austrian Press Agency that the watch was worth a five-figure sum.

It was not known whether the man was a football fan who had travelled to Salzburg for Wednesday’s UEFA Super Cup match between Paris Saint-Germain and Aston Villa. Police have warned people to be cautious of the “photo trick”.
