Car catches fire after A11 crash, leaving five injured

Five people, including three children, were injured in a serious crash on the Karawanken motorway near Rosegg on Friday morning, ORF reported. The car caught fire after the accident, and firefighters rescued one person who was trapped inside.

The main Villach fire brigade, along with the Dolintschach and St. Jakob volunteer fire brigades, was called to the crash shortly after 6 a.m., just past the Rosegg rest area. When emergency crews arrived, the heavily damaged vehicle was positioned near the central barrier. A driver who had stopped after the crash had already extinguished the fire with a handheld extinguisher.

One person remained trapped in the car, while the other four occupants were being treated by the Red Cross. Firefighters freed the trapped person using hydraulic rescue equipment.

Emergency doctors from the C11 rescue helicopter and the Red Cross, as well as a fire brigade doctor, treated the three children and two adults at the scene. The injured were then taken to hospitals in Villach and Klagenfurt.

Firefighters secured the crash site, established fire protection and cleaned the roadway. A private towing company removed the wrecked car. The operation lasted about an hour.
