Senior couple lose six-figure sum in internet fraud

A 77-year-old woman and her 86-year-old husband from the Innsbruck-Land district lost a six-figure sum in an internet and telephone fraud scheme, ORF reported. An unknown man obtained access to their bank accounts and emptied them.
The woman had been searching online for investment opportunities when she registered with an online portal. She was then contacted several times by a man who, according to police, probably gained remote access to her computer using AnyDesk.
The computer stored the login details for her current and savings accounts, as well as those belonging to her husband. The suspect used the information to empty the accounts. Police are investigating.
