Missing stand up paddler found dead at Wallersee

A missing stand up paddler was found dead in shallow water near the shore in Henndorf am Wallersee in Salzburg’s Flachgau district on Thursday afternoon, ORF reported. An emergency doctor from a rescue helicopter pronounced the man dead at the scene.

Firefighters and water rescue teams lifted the man onto a boat operated by the Wallersee local water rescue station and immediately began resuscitation efforts. An emergency doctor from the Christoph 14 rescue helicopter, based in Traunstein in neighbouring Bavaria, continued the attempts for about 40 minutes before confirming the death.

During the search, rescuers first spotted the man’s board in the reed belt of Fenning, a district of Henndorf. The man was found shortly afterwards. His age and place of origin were not known.
