The Shortynale short-film festival will bring regional and international productions to Klosterneuburg in Lower Austria from August 18 to 22, including films recently shown in Cannes and Berlin, ORF reports.
The festival will open on Tuesday with the ZDF and ORF series “SHEEP” by Alex Reinberg and Leni Gruber, before its television broadcast. The cast includes Birgit Minichmayr, Verena Altenberger, Jella Haase, Roland Düringer and Michael Ostrowski. The opening will take place outdoors at Rathausplatz.
On Thursday, the programme will feature “Gentle Monster”, a new drama by Marie Kreutzer. The film had its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival and will be shown at Shortynale as an exclusive Lower Austria premiere. A discussion with the director and film team is planned afterwards.
The festival will also offer a horror night in cooperation with the Slash Film Festival, alongside its competitions.
For the first time, an eight-member youth jury of people aged 16 to 22 will award its own prize to a favourite among the competition films.
Children and teenagers will also have their own short-film programme for the first time. In cooperation with the Austrian Film Academy’s film education programme, several films will be screened, followed by an animation workshop.
The festival will conclude on Saturday, August 22, with awards for the best films. The ceremony begins at 8.30 p.m. and admission is free.
