ORF’s Foundation Council has confirmed Klaus Obereder as director of the broadcaster’s Upper Austria regional studio. The council appointed all 13 members of designated ORF Director General Clemens Pig’s proposed management team by a clear majority on Tuesday, ORF reported.

Obereder will remain in the post from 2027. He said he was pleased by his renewed nomination and the confidence shown by Pig and the Foundation Council.

“Over the next five years, my team and I will continue developing the ORF regional studio in Upper Austria into the most trusted, relevant and digitally leading public-service regional media platform in the state,” Obereder said in a statement. He added that the aim was to position ORF Upper Austria and all its programmes and distribution channels so that as many people as possible would continue to regard it as indispensable.

Obereder, born in Linz in 1967, has been director of ORF Upper Austria since January 2022. He began his journalism career at the Oberösterreichische Nachrichten newspaper in 1988 and joined ORF in February 1989. During his career, he has worked as a journalist, presenter, programme maker and editor-in-chief, gaining experience in management, organisation, programme planning, editorial coordination and strategic development.

For the selection process, Pig brought in external advisers to ensure that it was transparent, objective, comprehensible and non-discriminatory and complied with legal requirements.
