Drinking water in Tomils, a village in the Domleschg municipality, has been contaminated during construction work, SRF reported. Residents have been told to boil the water to kill any possible pathogens.
The municipality said the contamination was discovered today after a pipe was hit during construction. The type of contamination is not yet known.
Residents should use bottled water for drinking and preparing infant formula. Anyone who has consumed the water and develops a high fever, diarrhoea or vomiting should see a doctor.
The municipality said restoring Tomils’s drinking water supply could take several days. Further information will follow. More than 500 people live in the village.
