Authorities auction first seized speeding motorcycle

Upper Austrian authorities are auctioning a speeding rider’s motorcycle for the first time, ORF reported. Police stopped the 18-year-old on the A1 motorway near Puckingerberg after he was travelling at 206 kilometres per hour in a section where the speed limit was 100.

The Kawasaki Ninja reportedly belonged to the rider, allowing authorities to confiscate it and release it for auction under a new law. The motorcycle can be inspected at Dorotheum in Traun from Tuesday. Details of the vehicle will also be published, and the auction ends next Wednesday.

The Linz-Land district is considered a hotspot for speeding offences, partly because of its active tuning scene and illegal street races. Authorities have confiscated 15 cars, but had to return them because the drivers were not the vehicles’ owners.
