Firefighters free calf trapped in torrent-control barrier

Firefighters rescued a calf that became trapped in a torrent-control barrier in Obdach, in the Murtal district, over the weekend, ORF reported.

The calf apparently tried on Saturday to pass through the barrier in the Obdachegg area, where its grazing land is located. It became stuck between two heavy steel elements.

To free the animal as gently as possible, the Obdach Volunteer Fire Brigade carefully spread the steel pipes apart using hydraulic rescue shears.

The calf was freed unharmed and returned to its herd.
