ASKÖ seeks new operator for Scharnstein rescue helicopter base

The ASKÖ flight sports club is seeking a new operator for the rescue helicopter base in Scharnstein in the Almtal, ORF reported Monday. Talks are already under way with several helicopter providers.

One of the companies involved is Wucher from Vorarlberg, ASKÖ flight sports club chairman Wolfgang Planer confirmed. “We have of course spoken to all companies that provide rescue services in Austria. Wucher is one of them,” he said. Negotiations are also continuing with two or three other providers.

The dispute over the future of the Martin 3 rescue helicopter remains unresolved. The matter is now being handled by lawyers, according to both Wucher and the ASKÖ flight sports club.

Heli Austria, the previous operator of Martin 3, has refused to accept the termination of its lease at Scharnstein and has lodged an objection.

Planer said negotiations would have to continue before a decision could be made. The timing depends on when Heli Austria leaves the location.

Heli Austria has apparently indicated that, if the lease is terminated, it is interested in a location on a currently undeveloped plot near the Scharnstein airfield.
