Austria, Burgenland, peacebuilding

The Austrian Peace Centre in Stadtschlaining, in Oberwart district, trained 245 international professionals in southern Burgenland last year, ORF reported, citing the centre’s newly published annual report.

The centre works on peace research, peace promotion and conflict resolution. Its 2025 report describes how peacebuilding responded to global crises, according to the centre.

The centre supported peace processes including the development of humanitarian aid in West Africa and conflict resolution focused, among other places, on Sudan.

Education was another focus. Some 3,200 pupils, students and teachers took part in courses, while the Austrian Forum for Peace brought together 280 experts from 25 countries.

Norbert Darabos, president of the Peace Centre, said institutions that enable dialogue and provide guidance were particularly important during armed conflicts, the climate crisis and rapid technological development. He said the Peace Centre stood for this role.
