Man rescued after drowning accident in Lake Wörthersee

A 65 year old man was rescued after going under while swimming in the Teixlbucht bay on Lake Wörthersee on Saturday morning, ORF reported. He was taken to Klagenfurt Hospital while resuscitation efforts continued.

The man had gone swimming shortly after 10 a.m. from a private property belonging to an acquaintance in Maria Wörth. The woman watched from the shore as he suddenly went under and failed to resurface, then alerted the emergency services.

The water rescue service and specialist divers from the professional fire brigade arrived at the scene. They recovered the man about 25 minutes later from a depth of nearly seven metres.

Resuscitation began immediately at the scene. The man was flown to Klagenfurt Hospital by rescue helicopter while being resuscitated.
