Fire destroys Bregenz restaurant and damages cars

A restaurant on Achsiedlungsstraße in Bregenz was completely destroyed by fire overnight, ORF reported. Several cars parked at an adjacent car repair workshop were also damaged.

Fire services were alerted at around 3 a.m. When they arrived, the building was already fully engulfed, incident commander Günther Kreuzer told ORF in an interview outside the Bregenz-Vorkloster fire station. Crews quickly brought the fire under control, but an excavator had to remove the roof to allow the firefighting operation to continue.

Residents were advised to keep windows and doors closed temporarily because of heavy smoke. No one was injured. The cause of the fire remains unknown, and the criminal police have opened an investigation.
