Austria, Dornbirn, drag queens

A drag queen story hour for children in Dornbirn was briefly disrupted by a woman shouting interruptions, ORF reported. Police were present but did not intervene.

The event took place on Saturday in the Kulturhauspark park as part of the “Sommer im Park” festival, which ran from August 6 to 8. The city said this year’s programme focused on diversity and openness, with a Pride programme included for the first time.

The programme featured an interactive session with the drag queens Frau Bürgerschreck and Athene Atlas. They read children’s books and sang with the audience.

Critics had previously launched an online petition calling for the children’s programme to be cancelled, arguing that it could sexually influence children. Organisers rejected the criticism and said the performances and texts were suitable for children.

Most of those attending the reading were adults. Police were present as a precaution, but the only disruption came from the woman’s shouted interruptions.
