Man dragged 200 metres after horse-drawn carriage crash

A man was dragged for about 200 metres after a car collided with a horse-drawn carriage in Ober-Grafendorf in the St Pölten district on Saturday, ORF reported. He and another person were taken to hospital.

The crash occurred on Saturday afternoon in Friedau, a part of Ober-Grafendorf. One person sitting on the carriage was thrown to the ground, while the horse apparently panicked and galloped towards the B39 federal road with another person still on the carriage.

After crossing the road, the horse turned into a side street. The man appears to have fallen from the carriage there and was dragged for about 200 metres before the horse stopped, allowing him to free himself. He suffered serious injuries.

The horse later appears to have returned to the crash site. It stopped on a gravel lot, where a firefighter calmed and secured it. Emergency services treated both injured people before taking them to St Pölten University Hospital. Police are investigating the accident.
