Burglars damage Gleisdorf wave pool while searching for money

Several people broke into the Gleisdorf wave pool in Styria overnight and caused extensive damage while apparently looking for money, ORF reported. The outdoor pool was closed until 11:30 a.m. on Saturday while police carried out forensic work.

Gleisdorf Mayor Christoph Stark said the intruders entered the grounds from the stream side before breaking into the building. They damaged doors and furniture, and also forced open and destroyed a safe.

Police are examining video recordings from the pool. No damage was reported to the water technology or other equipment, and operations resumed shortly before noon.

Stark said the incident appeared to have been a burglary aimed at obtaining money rather than an act of vandalism, and probably was not a juvenile prank.
