Federal heating grants run out as demand stays high

Austria’s federal funding for replacing heating systems has been exhausted for 2026 because demand for boiler replacements and renovations remains high, ORF reported on Saturday.
The federal grant rate is expected to fall from 30 percent to 20 percent next year. A total of around 180 million euros is planned nationwide for 2027 and 2028, exclusively for boiler replacements. The detailed funding rules have not yet been published.
Carinthia keeps its own support
Support from the state of Carinthia will remain available. Since the beginning of the year, the Carinthian Renovation Euro has provided a flat 3,000 euros for switching to a climate-friendly heating system.
Thermal renovations are also eligible for funding. Homeowners no longer have to renovate an entire building at once, and individual measures can be supported. A heating system could be replaced first, followed later by new windows. If the measures reduce energy consumption, the window replacement could also qualify for funding.
About 800 applications have been submitted in Carinthia this year under the renovation guidelines, according to Stefan Gruber of the state’s housing department. The guidelines are valid until December 31, 2028, and applications under the Carinthian Renovation Euro can be submitted during that period.
How the state funding will work alongside the federal programme is expected to become clear after the federal government presents its new funding rules in autumn.
