Police detain drug-impaired German driver with suspected forged licence

Police detained a 38-year-old German driver in St. Veit an der Glan after finding that he was allegedly driving under the influence of drugs and carrying a suspected forged Estonian driving licence, ORF reported.

A police patrol stopped the man during a vehicle and driver check in the town on Friday at about 11:15 a.m. He presented an Estonian driving licence, but officers found that he held no valid driving licence in either Austria or Germany. He also gave contradictory information about how he had obtained the Estonian licence.

Police suspected that he had obtained the licence using falsified data. An official doctor confirmed that the man was impaired by drugs.

The Federal Office for Immigration and Asylum was informed and ordered his transfer to the police detention centre in Klagenfurt. The man is now in immigration detention.
